Marriott’s Global Design Strategies Engineering team is looking for an individual who blends technical skills with smart business sense and is excited about joining a team that thrives when/where design and travel converge. This person is agile, able to intertwine solid engineering design principles, communication, and customer service skills. This person can quickly identify issues and is able to develop solutions that work within time and budget constraints. This candidate is a quick thinker, problem solver and an excellent communicator who is driven to succeed. Responsible for the delivery of high-quality engineering support under the direction of senior engineering leaders this individual will need to work collaboratively to support the engineering efforts across several Marriott departments (Global Design, Global Operations, Technology and others) and external stakeholders (consultants, vendors, owners, franchisees and others).
EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS
- Perform “Quality Assurance” and if necessary “Quality Control” of various MEP issues during the design, construction, and post-occupancy of various building projects.
- Design reviews involve validation of Marriott criteria, system performance, equipment selection, constructability, maintainability, building code conformance, sustainability, smoke control, value engineering, and phasing & sequencing.
- Construction support services include bid review and analysis, MEP projects control functions (change order analysis, schedule impacts), cost reduction assessment (opportunities, risk analysis), claim & litigation avoidance, submittal reviews, field surveillance, measurement & verification, start-up & testing, transition planning (construction to operations), project closeout administration.
- Evaluate hotel property conditions and write the MEP scope in Property Improvement Plans (PIPs) necessary to achieve brand criteria and desired levels of guest satisfaction.
- Provide Facility Engineering support including the following services.
- Warranty inspections.
- Condition assessment surveys.
- Capital improvement programming, energy conservation analysis including building performance benchmarking & modeling.
- Load management consultation.
- Development of complete design solutions/bid packages for small renovations and retrofits.
- Regularly monitor stakeholder satisfaction and take personal responsibility to ensure it. Follow through on stakeholder inquiries, requests, and complaints in a timely fashion.
- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and owners; anticipate needs of client groups; negotiate work deliverables and timing for initiatives.
- Ensure that information requests for owners, internal stakeholders, and franchisees are met on a timely basis.
- Remain current with emerging technologies, national codes and other building/operating regulations, and best methods for mechanical and electrical building systems.
- Regularly request feedback from leaders and take personal responsibility to ensure workload is met. Actively listen and ask questions of stakeholders to assess the level of satisfaction with the service being provided.
- Work with supervision to anticipate the needs of the stakeholders.
- Discuss decision making process with senior leaders for standard/routine issues or problems; determine and propose alternative solutions for more complex issues and problems; however, decision is made at a higher level.
- Communicate orally and in writing to stakeholders.
- Communicate on a regular basis with the senior engineering leadership regarding projects.
- Assist in promoting engineering partnerships with other departments and divisions.
- Assist in the building of team core values of integrity, accountability, respect, and value.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience Required
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related technical field from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Three or more years of professional engineering experience in the design and construction industries.
- Exceptional organizational skills, demonstrated through the successful management of deadlines and concurrent priorities, with guidance from senior engineering leadership.
- Strong problem-solving and creative thinking abilities, showcasing a capacity to explore solutions beyond conventional boundaries.
- Understanding of industry innovation trends.
- Proven capability to establish and nurture robust working relationships.
- Customer service acumen to ensure client satisfaction.
- Negotiation skills with the flexibility to adapt when necessary.
- Effective collaboration within a matrix delivery/support organization.
- Track record of success in process improvement, project management, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient technical writing skills.
- Competent in using MS Office tools.
- Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and guidelines, including ICC, ASHRAE, and ASPE.
Education & Experience Preferred
- One or more years of hotel experience.
- Engineer in Training certificate (EIT), Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Energy Manager In-Training (EMIT), Certified energy manager (CEM).
- LEED Green, LEED AP certified.
- Working knowledge of Bluebeam, AutoCAD, HVAC Load Analysis, and Lighting Calculations would be advantageous.
- Solid knowledge of construction means and methods, facilities operations, and contracting.
