The Associate General Counsel, Commercial and Industrial Products Position
Sunnova is currently searching for a highly motivated and experienced Associate General Counsel to advise the business with respect to the creation, negotiation, and documentation of commercial distributed generation products. The person in this position will support and report to the VP, Associate General Counsel for Consumer Products, who serves as chief counsel for Sunnova’s new products and market entries. The successful candidate will assist in the development and expansion of Sunnova’s solar, storage, and energy management products with commercial counterparties. The person in this position will collaborate closely and build strong relationships with individuals in the Marketing, Business Development and Finance departments in the role of advising them with respect to Sunnova’s distributed generation services and energy storage and management product development in the commercial space.
Associate General Counsel, Commercial and Industrial Products Responsibilities
- Provides support to the VP, Associate General Counsel, and SVP, Commercial and other team members with respect to requirements for the expansion of solar, storage and energy management products into the commercial space
- Assists in the management of commercial solar and distributed generation contract production and review
- Conducts legal research to ensure product compliance with applicable regulations around solar, storage, distributed generation, and microgrids
- Commercially minded, flexible and pragmatic
- Negotiates solar and distributed generation contracts with commercial customers
- Creatively solves problems and thinks outside the box
- Works in a fast paced and demanding environment
- Provides advice in other specialized practice areas
- Partners with other members of the Sunnova legal team and outside counsel to resolve issues that may require additional or alternative expertise
- Responds promptly to business and legal requests
- Handles special projects as requested
Minimum Requirements
- J. D. degree from accredited law school
- 7-10 years of legal experience as a commercial and/or transactional attorney
- Expertise – Familiarity with laws and regulations concerning commercial construction, power, solar, distributed generation, and/or commercial real estate, and strong track record of professional accomplishments
